Hybrid conference: Human Rights and European Union Law [21.10.2023]

The Open University of Cyprus and the BA in Law, in cooperation with the Jean Monnet Chair in “EU Institutions, Rights and Judicial Integration” awarded to Associate Professor Alexandros Tsadiras, are organizing a hybrid conference on the topic of “Human Rights and European Union Law” on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

Keynote speakers are the renowned:

  • Professor Paul Craig (University of Oxford), “The EU, Human Rights and Administrative Law: A Temporal Perspective
  • Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas (University of Liverpool), “The Evolution of Human Rights Protection in Europe's Area of Criminal Justice
  • Professor Nicola Countouris (University College London), “The Human and Labour Rights Dimensions of the European Pillar of Social Rights

PROGRAMME

The Conference will start at 09.30 am and will end on 15.00 pm (GMT+3). It is open to law professionals, attorneys, solicitors, academics and scholars, researchers, practitioners, and the public, interested in human rights and European Union law.

The new distance learning Undergraduate (BA) Programme in Law of the Open University of Cyprus is offered for the first time the current academic year 2023/24, and it is taught in Greek. The Law Degree is accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA), and covers the subjects of the exams of the Legal Council for trainee advocates (bar exams).

The prestigious Jean Monnet Chair in “EU Institutions, Rights and Judicial Integration” has been awarded to Associate Professor Alexandros Tsadiras, Academic Coordinator of the MA Programme “European Union Law” of the Open University of Cyprus, by the European Commission. The Chair has the following objectives: a) generate and enhance knowledge and insights that can support EU policy-making and strengthen the role of the EU in a globalised world, b) foster dialogue between the academic world and society, including local and state level policy-makers, civil servants, civil society actors, and c) spread knowledge about EU subjects to wider society.
